12clicks is missing!

12clicks didnt show up for work today. I seriously think we need to call out the troops and do a sweep of the local salons, Tommy Bahama shops, Prime Rib butchers, Wineries, and 80's music thrift stores. Description: Tall man with large forehead, often seen flashing an iphone as if it was a black AMEX card, glancing (but not LOOKING) at hot young ladies as if uninterested and often seen circling around local Philly Pretzel shops.

Google Dumps Supplemental Name Not Index

Google will no longer be marking pages that are not in the primary index (pages not fully indexed and cached and given a PR, but have been partially crawled) but appear in results as Supplemental Results.

While the pages will still appear in the results they will no longer be marked as Supplemental which often lets webmasters know the indexing status of such pages. These pages are most often only found through very specific searches such as exact text matching for uncommon phrases or names, or through site:www.mysite.com complete pages indexed results.

15 Things About How Google Handles Duplicate Content

SOURCE

1. Google’s standard response is to filter out duplicate pages, and only show one page with a given set of content in its search results.

2. I have seen in the SERPs evidence that large media companies seem to be able to show copies of press releases and do not get filtered out.

3. Google rarely penalizes sites for duplicate content. Their view is that it is usually inadvertent.

4. There are cases where Google does penalize. This takes some egregious act, or the implementation of a site that is seen as having little end user value. I have seen instances of algorithmically applied penalties for sites with large amounts of duplicate content.

5. An example of a site that adds little value is a thin affiliate site, which is a site that uses copies of third party content for the great majority of its content, and exists to get search traffic and promote affiliate programs. If this is your site, Google may well seek to penalize you.

6. Google does a good job of handling foreign language versions of site. They will most likely not see a Spanish language version and an English language versions of sites as duplicates of one another.

7. A tougher problem is US and UK variants of sites (”color” v.s. “colour”). The best way to handle this is with in-country hosting to make it easier for them to detect that.

8. Google recommends that you use Noindex metatags or robots.txt to help identify duplicate pages you don’t want indexed. For example, you might use this with “Print” versions of pages you have on your site.

9. Vanessa Fox indicated in her Duplicate Content Summit at SMX that Google will not punish a site for implementing NoFollow links to a large number of internal site links. However, the recommendation is still that you should use robots.txt or NoIndex metatags.

10. When Google comes to your site, they have in mind a number of pages that they are going to crawl. One of the costs of duplicate content is that when the crawler loads a duplicate page, one that they are not going to index, they have loaded that page instead of a page that they might index. This is a big downside to duplicate content if your site is not (more) fully indexed as a result.

11. I also believe that duplicate content pages cause internal bleeding of page rank. In other words, link juice passed to pages that are duplicates is wasted, and this is better passed on to other pages.

12. Google finds it easy to detect certain types of duplicate content, such as print pages, archive pages in blogs, and thin affiliates. These are usually recognized as being inadvertent

13. They are still working on RSS feeds and the best way to keep them from showing up as duplicate content. The acquisition of FeedBurner will likely speed the resolution of that issue.

14. One key think they use as a signal as to what page to select from a group of duplicates, is that they look at and see what page is linked to the most.

15. Lastly, if you are doing a search and you DO want to see duplicate content results, just do your search, get the results, and append the “&filter=0″ parameter to the end of your search results and refresh the page.

XBiz Vegas Returns

Well 12clicks came back from Vegas all tanned and still bragging about his iphone. He spent 3 days sipping $18 drinks in a pool while doing business surrounded by women hotter than the sun itself. I'm so jealous I can't make fun of him. In fact, my job is becoming increasingly harder to do here. I need more ammo. I'm waiting for more pics of girls looking bored next to him or at least some fruit cocktail. I'm sure they are out there.

Fruit With Class

This week 12clicks is still high off the Cybernet Expo. With generous compliments such as "pure class" from Nick3131 and promised to spend more time with him from LuvPimpinYou on JBM - 12clicks knows he's truly 'made it' in the new generation of adult biz. (hahahaha!) Well it's good the show went well, by now I've learned that 12clicks is great at shows, his candor is not for everyone, but he's almost always dependably good dining company. On that note...

12clicks and I are going to hit the big city on Thursday. We have a business lunch planned. This'll be my first time into Center City / Downtown Philly. I'm not sure if I'm more excited about the lunch in the city or seeing Monica again. Should be fun!

Biz stuff- if you have some free sites and traffic portals/directories hit me up - I'm developing some small free sites this month and looking for trades for listings, home page links, blog links, etc. Easygoing exchanges please.

12clicks has a New Hero

Suprise! It's not a sandwich.

Well it's pretty evident that Sir 12clicks has a new hero in his life...The author of the Bromasters.blogspot.com blog. Shall we count thy ways?

Holy crap! any one see bromasters lately? turns 12clicks on so much he almost resorts to lowering himself to watersports in hopes of getting pissed on himself. Now let's see, first he tried a ploy on GFY to find out the bloggers true identy by (sincerely, really) posting that he wants to buy advertising on the blog. Wave money in his face and the doogie will follow. Ah but Bromaster is smarter than thou. And the bait lay unbitten.
So now 12clicks is wondering if this guy is above paying attention to 12clicks who plays that it's OK to keep Bromasters identity hidden like the superhero blogger of the adult industry for tellin it like it is. So 12clicks says "Also, it *is* kinda fun NOT knowing who it is (as long as he doesn't talk shit about me)"
Don't fall for it Mr.Bromaster - talking shit about 12clicks is exactly what 12clicks wants you to do. Do not validate his homosexuality by dropping the One Two Clicks on the blog spot. Besides, talking shit about 12clicks is my job, not yours. You want a chance at it, you gotta get through me first. I worked too long and too hard to get where I am today just so any imp with a free blog can make fun of my boss. However if you must, hit me up and maybe we can work something out.

Back from Canada

It's nice to know Canada is a smart enough country to view me as a threat, forcing me to go through secondary questioning in customs upon entering the country. Evidently there are enough cuties in the country and they wanted to make sure I'd be leaving before I caused any serious harm.

Secondly it is nice to know that Canadians cannot cook decent food to save their lives. This is a great way to fight obesity.

Thirdly, it's nice to know that Canada makes the absolute worst tasting smokes in the world. This is a very smart way to get people to quit smoking.

Finally, the show was fun - 12clicks showed me I have much to learn in the way of cutting to the chase and dealmaking. It was a good trip, I did some coverage for AVN who had these great newsletters of daily (printed) show news that was well put together. The semiars were pretty good and the show, while small compared to most, was a great group of quality people.

It's good to be back home!

____
AVN Articles - Show Coverage
2 were printed in the daily show newsletters (traffic & CMS seminars)

These 2 writ on Friday were put online

Off to Toronto

Tomorrow 12clicks and I head out to Toronto for Webmaster Access East. This should be interesting to say the least. I get to walk in the shadow of one of the greats in public. Sure wish we had business cards to take, unlike him I'm not 6'6 'presence' and I have a face that tends to be a bit forgettable. I guess I'll have to practice my "I'll call you" attitude. Lots of challenges ahead. I'll keep you posted.

Sacrificial Lamb

Cyn:
jesus, i think my coffin needs more nails! lol
12clicks:
yeah, the popular girl is on the cross.
Cyn:
it's all your fault!
12clicks:
there are many upsides to my association.
Cyn:
if you consider insanity, aggrevation, exercises in futility, and meaningless homoerotic flattery upsides, then yes, there are many
12clicks:
how dare you!
